A How-to Guide for Halloween Pillow Box Candy Holders in Detail

Introduction

October 21st is Halloween, and it would be great to show you how to make some pillow box candy containers to hand out during trick-or-treating. They can also be given to anybody else, including friends, family, and coworkers. Making and distributing these throughout the Halloween season would be a ton of fun.

Overview

We’re going to use a bunch of new products from the newest collection, which will be Halloween-themed. These products can be mixed and matched, and we will discuss with you a variety of them to give you some ideas on how to create pillow boxes for your trick-or-treaters, family, and friends.

Supplies

For today’s project, you’ll need a pillow box die, and I’m using our The Custom Packaging exclusive pillow box die.  We also have a lot of other products, including patterned paper, fun bits, and pieces, odds and ends with cute Halloween imagery, sentiments, embellishments like jewels and shape sprinkles, a shaker pop, and even some washi tape.

Cutting Pillow Boxes

I’ll start by cutting out my pillow boxes. I’ll look through the papers to choose which ones to use, then trim them down to be slightly larger than the die.

Using a 6 by 11-inch paper, we will score the paper at 1.5, 5.5, and 9.5 inches (24.13 cm) on the 11-inch side. We shall only score at 1 inch (2.54 centimeters) on the 6-inch side up to the 1.5-inch score line. Repeat on the opposite side.

Next, fold at the 5.5-inch score line and cut along the 1-inch score lines on both sides. Use a plate to draw curved lines for the pillow box shape, then score along those lines. Cut the outside curved lines and score the inside ones.

The premium papers used in making pillow boxes are double-sided, so I’ll use both sides, like the bugs and spooky eyes.

Trimming Pillow Boxes

I’m trimming the tags from the paper with my trimmer to use on some of the pillow boxes. I’ll use a hole punch to secure a string to the tags.

Now I’ve die-cut all my boxes, and when they are well assembled they look wonderful. They’re very simple and easy to do. Since the die creates all of the score lines, just erase the pencil lines and fold along the score lines to assemble the pillow box. Use a 3/4 circle punch to create finger holes on the back panel. After applying glue along the upper border, fold it under. Round the bends with a triple punch. Punch two holes on the top flap for the ribbon. The pillow box can hold candy, a gift card, or other small items.

Decorating

Now for the fun part, we are at decorating the personalized pillow boxes. I’ve pulled out ephemera, sentiments, and embellishments. I’m using liquid glue, foam tape, and redline tape to attach everything. I’ve also pulled out orange, green, and black twine to tie on tags. You can use sentiment banners from the ephemera packs, wrap them around the pillow box, and create different orientations for your scenes.

Embellishments

I’m adding embellishments like googly eyes to some characters, like the spider. There are also fun shaker pops, like the pumpkin, which I’ll add to a pumpkin-themed pillow box.

Depending on your box, you may want to add extra adhesive. I’ve tied some of the tags onto the boxes with twine, wrapped them around the box, and added ephemera for a cute finish.

Stickers

I’ve added dimensional stickers and washi tape to close the pillow boxes, making them even cuter. For trick-or-treating on Halloween, these pillow boxes are ideal. Spoon chocolates, caramels, chocolate malt balls, or other confections into them. They would make great party favors, or you could put them in a basket for trick-or-treaters.
